I am an Associate Professor at the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences (CiMeC) and the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Trento. Before joining CiMeC through a direct call in 2022, I held the same position at the University of Amsterdam (2013–2022), where I led research projects at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation. I hold the Italian National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in Linguistics (10/G1) and as an Associate Professor in Computer Science (INF01).

Maciej Malicki and I are looking for a Ph.D. student and postdoc to help us develop hybrid models (logic + machine learning) of natural language reasoning. In hybrid models, reasoning is ultimately based on rules of logic, but neural networks are involved in tasks such as the process of premise selection or construction of reasoning steps. We will mostly investigate fragments of language, i.e. various subclasses of first-order (or modal) logic that resemble natural language. However, we will be interested in analyzing and interpreting interactions between the logical and the
neural components from the cognitive perspective rather than simply optimizing them.

We offer a genuinely interdisciplinary scientific environment. The team will be based in Warsaw but regular research visits to Amsterdam are a part of the plan. The salary is attractive, especially for Warsaw.
